OSIS is the On-line Sea Turtle Research and Monitoring Information System. This site combines information that describes in-water research and monitoring projects. Researchers can login to OSIS to view, edit, or submit a yearly update of their project.

To access information about sea turtle in-water research projects:

  1. Select "Reports" from the navigation bar at the top of the page to view the full list of OSIS site reports
OSIS now includes descriptions of over 60 in-water research and monitoring efforts. In addition to this, it also includes descriptions of other research and monitoring efforts that provide information on sea turtles in FL waters: sightings of sea turtles in aerial surveys targeting sea turtles, incidental sightings of sea turtles in aerial surveys targeting other species, captures of sea turtles as a result of relocation trawling associated with dredging projects and incidental take of sea turtles in other activities (e.g. fisheries and dredging). OSIS was generated from an existing in-water sea turtle research and monitoring database (outlined in Eaton et al. 2008)
  2. Visit the OSIS ArcGIS Web Map
Inventoried sea turtle in-water research and monitoring projects are characterized spatially within an accompanying geodatabase, which feed into a geospatial display of inventoried information provided by an ArcGIS (ESRI, Redlands, CA) web application. Go to the Web Map…

Funding for the creation of OSIS was provided by NOAA Fisheries through the Species Recovery Grants to States program (award number NA13NMF4720046). […read more…]
